My name is Claire, and I’m the artist and creator behind Lore of the Land.
I was born and raised in Cornwall, and my heritage here dates back to the 1600s, so you could say I’m a proper “Cornish maid”, minus the accent. I am a staunch nature and animal lover, and I have always been fascinated by the weird and otherworldly from a very early age, from nature to alternative animation, music, film and television.
I have produced artwork and logos for bands, brewers, photographers and other small businesses. However, my personal work is more traditional in technique, and is heavily influenced by the Cornish landscape and everything within it.
In 2018 I spent four years living in a spectacular corner of the county known as the Penwith peninsula, discovering a landscape and folkloric community that I, ashamedly, never knew existed until I lived in and amongst it. It deeply resonated with me, not just on a personal level but a creative one too. There is an unforgettable rugged and jarring landscape looming over the ocean, and the towns and villages that rest within it host some incredible annual celebrations of traditional Cornish customs and pagan ceremonies.
Finally, Lore of the Land took form, combining all the things I appreciate about nature, oddities and traditional Cornish customs and lore.
I am open to commissions, so please feel free to contact me.
